Alcatraz Dining Hall Mural
Art Director: Kit Hinrichs
Designer: Sarah Gardner
The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy are renovating the Dining Hall on the island of Alcatraz. To shield the main space from the dust, a partition wall was put up. We were asked to design the graphics for the wall, which will be in place for around two years.
The wall graphics give the viewer snippets of information about the Dining Hall in the form of facts and figures. Much of these are taken from original prison food menus. We also used archival photographs to give a sense of history to the mural.
The final banner measures around 87' wide by 9' high.
